The 2007 Talent Management Survey has uncovered an explosion in talent management incentives. The research, carried out by HR consultancy Knowledge Infusion and the International Association for Human Resources Information Management (IHRIM), revealed that organisations will focus on leadership development, performance management and talent acquisition as top priorities in 2007, with talent acquisition moving to third from the top priority in 2006. The majority of companies cite organisational expansion, followed by a lack of understanding the capabilities and skills of the workforce, and a current or immanent leadership gap as key drivers for their investments in talent-management initiatives.

“Forty two percent of respondents cite business expansion as a key driver for talent-management initiatives. With the focus on performance, learning and succession management increasing, organisations realise that they must fully leverage their internal resources to fill talent requirements,” said Heidi Spirgi, president of Knowledge Infusion. “This can only be done successfully by making your talent management strategy an integral part of your business strategy and creating an over arching plan to connect all aspects of talent management from recruiting to performance and learning all the way to succession planning.”
